The Red Umbrella Athens, Red Umbrella Thess and Positive Voice field team carries out awareness and prevention outreach interventions by approaching sex workers on the street, in brothels/studios and other venues in various areas of Athens and Thessaloniki.
Streetwork is one of the most important areas of our activities, aiming to reach out to HIV vulnerable social groups and to inform and raise awareness on issues related to prevention, regular testing, sexual health and harm reduction. These targeted interventions are structured and implemented with the assumption that any initiative can be most effective when an organization reaches the target population at the site where it is concentrated, rather than vice versa when it waits or invites the beneficiary to visit its own site. The “Positive Voice” streetwork team consists of specially trained staff with many years of experience in the field and in reaching vulnerable or socially excluded populations, as well as volunteers who have attended seminars on the topic and have been evaluated.
